This is a great summary of all the reasons why I'm supporting Rick Perry for the Republican nomination for President. Especially refreshing is the point that a President can only push 3-5 agenda items during the first term, and only 1-2 during the second, since for the second half of the second term the office-holder is a lame duck, who spends the last two years protecting his legacy. So one criteria for judging a candidate for the nomination is, what would those 4 things be that each candidate would pursue? Romney says his plan has 59 steps, which means none of them stand a chance. Gingrich has 104 ideas a day; which ones would he pursue? Does he even remember yesterday's? Paul? stop chem-trailing and arrest someone for the murder of JFK, then put us back on the gold standard? Bachmann? She hasn't said. Santorum? Nice guy, but he hasn't said. Huntsman? Who?
Perry's plan is clear, and he hasn't changed it since he tossed his hat in the ring:
1. Keep taxes as low as possible, because citizens spend money wisely and create new wealth when permitted to use their money as they wish.
2. Keep the regulatory climate "fair and predictable" and overturn new attempts by the government to micromanage private enterprise.
3. Start producing energy here in America, rather than purchasing it from countries which are often hostile.
4. Make Washington, D.C. as "inconsequential to your lives as possible," by devolving as much power as possible back to states and localities, consistent with the original goal of the 10th Amendment.
That's clear, concise, and workable. He's an experienced Chief Executive, having led the most successful state in the country for 11 years. No other governor has led Texas for that long in the history of the state. He's married to his grade school sweetheart and there's never been a hint of scandal about him. He invited retired SEAL Marcus Luttrell (Last Survivor) live in his family home when Luttrell couldn't live by himself and had nowhere to go. Luttrell is campaigning for Perry in Iowa, with his service dog. Perry is an Air Force veteran, who served for ten years and was discharged as a Captain. That requires political acumen and executive skill, too.
He may not be the best debater, but debating skill isn't one that a President needs.
Right now, it looks like Perry is the best choice.
